At the head of living female poets, Mrs. Browning is placed by the verdict of the public, in her own country and in ours. Her poetry has a rare combination of intellect and passion; proving her to have both mind and heart, so that her verse takes hold upon the most gifted and the less cultured, inspiring all her readers with the strong impulses of her own true soul. We do not believe that she has excelled herself in this volume. Indeed we have read other productions of her pen that charmed us more, much more, but it bears her impress, and justly claims the regard of her admiring friends.
