E570100C. Aurora Leigh (New York, 1857).
Christian Review (Boston), January 1857, p. 150.
As reprinted in The Brownings’ Correspondence, 23, 348.
This is a new poem and a romance in blank verse, of nine books. It is the last and most finished production of the fair and gifted author, and will be eagerly sought. Through her former works she has attained, by universal suffrage, the merit of genius. Possessed of strong passions and emotions, fervid imagination, and spiritual and Christian ideas, she stands among the first of female and living poets. A volume of good poetry is very acceptable in these days, and we receive this with pleasure. It must be read as a whole to be fully appreciated.
