Some very able essays on the poets included in the title of this little volume, appeared from time to time in the pages of the Athenæum. They are now reprinted by permission, and will be most sincerely welcomed by a large and growing class, who can appreciate the true spirit of poetry, and the genial, loving criticism upon the productions of the poets of ancient and of modern times.
