R400314B. Sordello.
The Conservative Journal and Church of England Gazette, 14 March 1840, p. 6.
Addendum to The Brownings’ Correspondence, vol. 4.
The next publication on our list is “Sordello,” by Robert Browning, which, from the shape in which it is printed, we presume its author calls a poem, but what it is about we have vainly tried to discover. Whether it is a sly satire, a burlesque, or a seriously-intended effort after poetry, we candidly confess ourselves at a loss to say; and, so perfectly puzzled are we, that we hereby offer a year’s subscription of the Conservative Journal to any one that will resolve us the riddle.
