E570401A. Aurora Leigh.
The Irish Ecclesiastical Gazette, 1 April 1857, p. 257.
As reprinted in The Brownings’ Correspondence, 24, 337.
This is a delicious poem; the grandest production of female genius. Our language bespeaks the highest admiration of this story in verse; but, just as in the case of every other book, we do not commit ourselves to unqualified approval. The disappointed philanthropist Romney, and the simple, natural Marian Earle, are much greater favourites with us than the proud and poetical Aurora Leigh.
