My dear Barrett
I have reced two letters from Sam since I came here—one from Stockholm, the other from town—he did not date the latter from any place. I wrote to him at No 16 King Street Portman Square, conceiving this to be your mother’s address & that he would be sure to get the letter which was of consequence to him as it referred him to my banker for such money as he might want during his stay in town. By a letter from Mrs S. today—I have reason to believe that Sam has not received either of mine (for I wrote two). I must beg you therefore in case he is with you to state these facts to him & to add that I inclosed in my last from this place his letter to his mother which came under cover to me from Stockholm– I participate [in] your pleasure in seeing him safe again & I have no doubt you will find him much improved. He had better write to the post office in London to desire his letters (I mean those I wrote to him, tho’ they will not be of any consequence except for the inclosure to his mother) to be sent to him. Whilst I have pen in hand I may as well mention to you that Boddington P S & Co just before I left town have paid over to me the nett proceeds of 51 hhds of your crop 1806 by the Hornby. They amount but to 510l that is 10l p hhd This is sorry work. But I wish to know whether you would have me return the money to them on your account or pay it to your banker. There will be I should think at least as much more due to you when I get Plummer & Co to make out this last account in the way I have desired, with the addition of your dividends from the funds. I have been so pressed with business during the holdiays that I have not been able to make out my accounts—but as soon as possible after my return I shall set Alic to work upon them & send them to you. In the mean time there is no good reason why the balance as far as I can ascertain it should not be applied to your order & I dare say I shall be able to ascertain it within one or two hundred pounds when I get Plummers account—which I dare say is ready– Let me know therefore what you would have me do with it for you. I am impatient to see Sam. Remember me kindly to him & Mrs Barrett & believe me My dr Barrett
