My dear S Barrett

I am glad to find you are about to follow my advice & go to England. I am sure it will be a good satisfaction to your father to see you & hear all you can tell him–

Whether the Court will be over soon to enable me to be in Spa Town tomorrow week or not I cannot say but at all events I shall see you here– Have you paid |Inman’s| a/c? He has spoken to me once or twice on the subject & I told him he must wait ’til you return from America– It had better be paid before you leave. We live in strange times & see daily such strange things that I am not at all surprised to hear what you mention of Knibb & the portion of rent– I hear there is a great difference among the Bar as to the liability of the negro to pay rent for the 3 months following the 1 Aug. but I have only seen the opinions of |Mr Wt Gt| & Watts which have been published—it is one of the many embarrassing questions which I suppose it will fall to my lot to unravel & decide– I am oblige[d] to you for your promise to bring up |Nelson|– I find that two leather halters of mine were left at The Retreat will you ask Samuels, who I hope is to remain there, to give them to Sam Wilkins. Lady Rowe will be most thankful to you if you would let her have Bobby during your absence—she is in great distress for a house boy—he shall be taken care of & well worked—& he can return with you to C. Hill when you come back–
