My dear Mr Boyd,

I have written out the poem for you a second time. [1] What can have become of the first copy, with my letter—I cannot imagine I have read [sic, for written] it out as legibly as I can, therefore I hope there will be no difficulty for anyone to read it to you– I was going to call on you yesterday, but Sam, who was to accompany me, was obliged to go to the city on business. He has been very unwell lately, or he would have called on you before–

If it is at all possible, I shall go and see you tomorrow, but perhaps I shall not be able until Monday–
