My dear Sir

It does appear to me very hasty conduct on the part of your Opponents in wishing to dispose of all the property which has so many local advantages as those you enumerate, but the prudence or otherwise of the measure can only in my opinion have weight with the Landholders or Proprietors, as the Tenants being a moving body, they will see that their interest is to get rid of the charges upon them, whether as regards the capital or interest, by the contemplated sale: I should hope you will be able to come to a compromise by your proposal of selling a portion, & so preserving the most important part—I have taken the liberty of inserting your name as my Proxy, as it is possible it might not have served its object, had my Agent’s Name been placed in it.
