My dear Sir,

It gives me much pain to be the harbinger of bad news, but it has unfortunately devolved upon me to inform you of the sudden death of my uncle after only one hour & a half’s illness caused by a fit of Apoplexy on Saturday la[s]t the 18th– I am acting executor to the Will, my Uncle George not being here & Dr Longmore & the Recr Genl not having as yet qualified.

I must inform you, the little Girl Jeanette is left £20 Per Annum curry: to be paid quarterly so you had better regulate her expenses & the Cost of her education accordingly & not to allow it to exceed that Sum.
