My dear Sir
I enclose you a note just placed in my hands, & the only information I have recd on the subject. I know not who the Exors of Mr P. Morris may be, & should be the last person to shew the slightest disrespect to the memory of a man who is I am sure so generally regretted: But on behalf of my Father, I state most clearly & distinctly that I recognise no right of any person whoever he may be, to the private burial ground on this Property; it is I maintain wholly & solely the Property of Ed. M. Barrett, & I am much annoyed that both on this and a late occasion no application whatever should have been made to my Fathers representative in this country and must to oppose all precedents of a like nature give my unqualified refusal to the interment taking place here, unless the permission of the party standing in my Fathers stead be obtained. It pains me much under such circumstances to express this opinion, but knowing my Fathers feelings on the subject, I should neither do my duty as his nearest relative in the Island, nor do that which I consider I am clearly entitled to claim if I acted otherwise. I believe I have, although hurriedly, fully expressed my feelings on this subject, & you will great oblige me by communicating this letter to the Exors, though pray at the same time state I am deeply sensible of the Loss we have sustained & much regret that they had not acted in a more correct & courteous a manner.
P.S. Do not give the enclosed note to any one but return it to me. On seeing the Exors & hearing their intention instantly despatch Sam Williams–
Truly ys
S M Barrett
