The Bearer your servant has applied to me for an answer. Indeed I wish I had the power to forward a definitive one, but you have seen enough of the proceedure of the business, to imagine it most difficult to close the list when others are pouring in as you have witnessed them– I will receive none in addition after 9. tomorrow morng so will proceed at once to declare the state of the List. I am deprived of the greatest gratification I could derive from this duty, by the step by yourself taken this day which so far endangers the success of your <…> application.
