9th November 1839
Dear Sir.
I have now the pleasure of sending to you the plat of that part of the Town of Falmouth as laid out in lots which formerly belonged to the estate of Edward Barrett. Wherever there is a Title recorded in office you will find the Book & folio of the record marked in the lot, and I have omitted the dividing lines between the lots where several near adjoining are disposed of. The land at the old Fort from its situation and from a recital to that purport in the act authorizing the custos &c. to erect public buildings is I believe the site of the present Court House; but I do not find the Deed, for the Trustees of Edward Barrett on record, although there can be no doubt a title must have been given. Within red lines is the 26 acres 1 rood Parish Land, and some discussion having once taken place as to the boundaries on the Town, I have placed it as W Wilson the Surveyor then fixed it. The lots of land marked with a x are clearly undisposed of. They are conveyed by your Uncle to you in Trust for sale by the Deed noted on the plat, but I have omitted lots 388, 389 and 392 included in the same Deed since sold. Where the numbers appear in red ink their fixing has not been determined by the proximate lots, but I think looking to the order in which the known lots stand I am not wrong. The plat (which to send by post I have made on two separate sheets) will be a sufficient guide to you, and any other necessary information to determine its correctness you can ascertain on the Spot. A faint line distinguishes the seashore to the North East, and the Sea is also to the north of the Marine Hospital. I hope you will find the papers now satisfactory in every respect.
I am Dear Sir, respectfully
Yours truly
Alex W. Aikman.
