My dear Sam
I did not write in answer to yours by last post as I considered there was some doubt whether you would receive it directed to Black river.
I am very glad you have consented to be joined with me in the Receivership it will not only be a great s<av>ing of money but a mutual advantage to both parties and I shall at once make over to you Thatchfield as you understand the management of a pen much better than I do. My intentions are immediately on the arrival of my Uncle to call for a division of the Estates or else a sale of the Personals, as I am sure if I do not insist on one or the other we shall manage to get involved in Chancery or Law. The debts are only £25,000 & the personals are valued at £23,000 so I should make a very considerable gain by calling at once for a division besides saving the interest of the money as I know very well if things are allowed to go on <tha>t the most of the debts will have to be paid by me out of BH & Hg Hall. I also wish to put you in the management of Harding Hall & when I leave the Island make you Attorney for all I possess as I am fully convinced no one will ever give me so much satisfaction or manage my property with so great advantage to my self as you will– I am much obliged to you for visiting Harding Hall & I shall certainly take |your lead| as regards the Stock by having them at once returned– How many [illegible word] have you to Spare on White Hall as I think my cheapest way would be to get them either there or at the Old |Hope| as they are selling so very che<ap>.– You may take as m<uc>h of the Coffee as you like but that which you see at |Browns| Hole is sent out according to measurement to suit the Spring Hill. But I leave you and Ewart to settle the matter between you–. I have purchased another Gig being now able to produce [illegible word] of a more suitable description to [illegible word] with the bad roads– I [illegible words] for you if I see any [illegible words].
I have lost another horse by its being over ridden last monday by one of those incorrigible black villains– I regret the breakage of the [illegible word] glass but you may depend I will have a quid pro quo out of Mr & Mrs |Longrove|. Maria is going to conclude this
