My dear Uncle
I have received both your notes & I enclose a copy of a letter I yesterday received from Mr Vidal the Proprietor of Unity Valley adjoining River head it remains with you to decide to who the piece of land belongs I should say to River Head which caused me to order the fence to be destroyed. But it is so small a piece I should think to arbitrate it would be the best & easiest plan of determining it, with the assistance of the plans of the two Pens– The cause of the Penns being in not such good order as they should be is owing to their [sic] being a scarcity of money to lay out & Mr Simpson not taking the trouble to apply what money he might arising from the proceeds of the Butchery which with the addition of home rent, should have kept them in perfect order. The Crop on Barrett Hall is certainly a good one, but the doubts are if it can be taken off in sufficient time to make it available & Wages are swallowing up the proceeds fast. Things cannot last much longer in this way, Estates cannot be carried on under the present rate of wages for much longer– You may depend I will loose [sic] no time in seeing you after Maria is well as now the 12 months have expired the creditors will be becoming urgent.
I have paid every small account that has been rendered & all the Receivership ones the attested & rendered to the Different Masters. I am not aware of anything excepting a Medical [illegible word] & two glass Sugar basins which are quite safe here that I have removed from the Penn houses. I believe you will find by the list that Richard made that most of the things are on the Penns if not been lost since. Many things were removed to Union for Edward’s accomodation [sic] in the shape of Plates & Linen & he removed some books from the latter place here which are safe.
You shall be presented with the different inventories as soon as Mr Greenwood can get them made out & also with the a/c between the Estates &c & myself but it takes some time in making out.
