My Dear Madam.
I have the misfortune to say that my dear Brother Sam departed this Life yesterday morng however poi[g]nant my Feelings may be on this occasion, I am fully satisfied that they will be equalled by yours, as I am his survivor & one in whom he placed uncommon Confidence without exacting any promises; I beg leave to inform you, that I will be not only an Uncle but a Father to his Children, whose Educations & Fortunes will be to me the first & greatest objects of my Life & such a provision shall be made for them the moment I can arrange my affairs, that in a pecuniary point of view they shall be no sufferers, you being now the only surviving Parent no doubt your attention & affection if possible will be encreased. The Death of my Brother havg Left your late Husband’s Estates unrepresented, I mean to take possession of them, for the Trustees, & if they approve of it, they had best send me out a power of atty with power of substitution, you had best do the same, for your private affairs, the Reason of my wishing to have the power of substituting is that I may appoint one to act, in case it should be necessary for me to qualify as Executor to Mr. Williams, I can assure you it is my wish & Determination to do you all the Services in my power, this being the most effectual way of shewing the great affection I entertained for my late Brother I am my Dear Madam
