My dear Fox

The drawings shall be returned on Monday.

What Maclise said, I can best Explain personally, and, if you do not write to say me nay, I will take share of your chop on Tuesday next—at 5.

It is possible that I may not get to Chapel tomorrow—but I hope I may. In any case expect me on Tuesday. My work gives me a sick headache every day I sit down to it—it has such a hopeless, dreary, unprofitable aspect.

But then, you know, Pippa Passes .. that is something.

Lest Eliza should misconstrue my silence about the Maclise judgment on the drawings—let me add that he thinks there is great promise in them, and only wishes her to get training & guidance on some points before she turns to colour.
