I beg to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of the 25th August containing an offer to lease the Spring |Gut| land, belonging to me, & which lies contiguous to Easthams. Perhaps you are not aware that Mr Gordon the Attorney for Blue Hole has already applied for a portion, about ten acres, of the same land, wh. he will lease, & possibly this may alter yr view as respects the remaining part; but if not I must refer you to my agent Mr Jump both as regards the term of lease & the rent to be paid, for I am perfectly ignorant as to the value, except as to the offer made by Mr Gordon, which may afford me some criterion thereof, & if so, your proposals are indeed very low. However if Mr Jump thinks it advisable to lease the land & you can agree upon the terms, I know of no objection, & I dare say you may come to a satisfactory settlement.
I feel very much obliged to you for your offer of a shipment by my vessel wh. of course I shall be very happy to avail myself of. She sails the first week in December for Falmouth by way of Kingston, & I expect will reach the former Port early in Feby. I am very anxious that she may get away in May so that I shall be under much Obligation to any Gentleman, who will assist me in expediting her lading–
