My dear Miss Landor

Though I am greatly hurried, I must acknowledge your kindness without a post’s delay.

The substance of your letter, for which again & again I thank you, I have this day written to Mr Browning.

Nothing can be so generous, considerately thoughtful, most truly kind, as the conduct of your uncles Henry & Robert in this sad affair. More than most people I know all that it involves. I wish I could express, in proper terms for themselves, all I feel for and with them in respect to it. But it is only what all my previous knowledge of their high and honorable character, their noble & truthful natures, had prepared me for.

The cheque for 50£ has reached me safely. I had arranged yesterday with Messrs Drummond for transmission to Mr Browning of that exact sum through their agents, Messrs E. Fenzi & Co, Florence bankers; and I have advised Mr Browning that it is placed to his account. …
