It is very strange—but I was that instant going to write a hasty word to you, when your note of this morning was put into my hands!–

I promised that when I heard from the Brownings again you should see their letter—and here it is, in 3 pieces: which when you have read, you will kindly return– …

The Browning letter came last week. It gave me some pain at first—to find such senseless anger in one who owes a very different debt to me—but I have conquered this feeling by thinking of you, and your excellent uncles, and all who have sought most warmly to befriend him. Still, it is hard.

“Siena, Tuscany”—will be quite address enough. I have so addressed former letters. And decidely the post will be safest mode of transmission. …
