Dear Sir
I am much obliged to you for your letter of the 12th Feby. with the account enclosed of a certain balance due to me under the late Mr Clarke’s marriage settlement.
Mr Js Clarke must be under a mistake when he stated that I had expressed any suspicion of something being due to me under the settlement, for in fact I thought it all accounted for; but I mentioned to him, certainly not in a way to demand it, for he must recollect the motive of my doing so, that under his Father’s will, there was a sum due to me, I believe of some consideration, & with respect to which I beg to refer you to my attorney, the late Mr Moore’s letter of the 13th Novr 1837, to which I have never to this day received a reply.
