SD1205. John Clayton to Edward Moulton-Barrett (father)

Pall Mall East
March 14. 1844.
Dear Sir
I can only repeat that I can find no trace of any such Letter from Mr Moore as that which you describe, and I have no recollection of it– It is not the practice of our firm to destroy Letters & I have looked through the Letters of that period in vain– It is possible that it might be handed over to Mr James G. Clarke when received—if it reached us–
I think you will do well to send me at once a copy of the Letter—& the fate of the order may be traced through the Bankers–
I leave here tomorrow night–
Yours sincerely
John Clayton
