Dearest I hoped to write a little more liberally to you today …

I did not get on well yesterday afternoon. Had to go to the Stanleys with news of you; found nothing there but chaos (in the talking way) as usual;—was hurried to catch Fuz’s [John Forster’s] time: got little profit by the Fuz dinner, tho’ it was pleast enough, & hospitable as the Sun! Nobody there but Browning and an old Mr Dyce Scotchman, Com[m]entr on Shakespear, innoct old man); the talk was tolerably good, dinner unimpeachably so …
