Stoke St. Mary Somerset

11 July [1860]

My beloved Henrietta grew worse. Mr Stone (Curzon Street), Dr Lee (Saville Row), Dr Protheroe Smith (Park Street), Gros. Square. We had all there, the best men for her infirmity in London. They all shook their heads—and recommended country air-and home.

We returned this day in sadness, yet not without hope, in our trust in God, to our homestead—our pride of happiness brought low. God’s will be done.

Arabel accompanied us—and the Hedleys’ carriage met us at the Station and took us to Stoke St Mary. I had got leave—to quit Hythe for the present. Ocky, Charlotte, and their baby are here.
