Monday 31 May [1858]
Right after my breakfast I went to the garden to gather flowers with which I made a pretty bouquet that I sent at noon by Kate having her also tell Mrs. Browning that I wouldn’t go with Miss Blagden to visit her until 5 o’clock. Then Mrs. Browning having an engagement at that time told K. that she would expect me immediately and without fail. Kate came back right away to tell me so I dressed immediately and at 2 we both left. Arriving at the door Mr. Browning met me and took me to Mrs. B. who received me kindly. Giving me a kiss on leaving they made me promise to return before departing [Florence]. …
