As Chairman of a Committee of Vestry to erect a Public Landing place in the Town of Falmouth I take the liberty of addressing you upon the subject.
The Shipping Interest and public at large of this port (the second in the Island) suffer great inconvenience for the want of a Public landing place or pier & on petitioning the Vestry they granted a sum which together with a subscription raised for the purpose, enables the Committee to carry into effect so desirable an object, but they cannot commence the Job without obtaining your sanction (to whom the right of beach belongs) or the sanction of your attorney, who declines until your pleasure is known.
As representative of our family wharf I cannot but observe the inconvenience the wharfinger is subject to from parties embarking or disembarking during the day, & not unfrequently at night being obliged to open the Gates to allow Captains & others to get on board, as the beach is too shallow, and these remarks equally apply to your wharf– I therefore trust, as your property cannot in any measure suffer, you will grant the request & thus confer an obligation on the community at large & particularly for
