We rather hoped to have a letter yesterday. …

We were extremely shocked last evening by Mrs Norton’s telling us of Mrs Browning’s death. We see nothing of it in the paper this morning, and the report seems to need confirmation though, after all, from the bad accounts of her lately it is hardly surprising that she should die. I think a woman of genius and a great poetess has passed away. …
