My dearest Surtees

Mary says the money orders must be acknowledged to-day, so I shall send you a line to tell you Mama & I have just returned from Wimpole Street where we have been spending a very happy morning—we went early—after Church Henrietta & Arabel went with us to see Treppy, who Mama had not seen for forty years. She seemed so pleased to see Mama. Henrietta was so anxious for us to stay [to] dinner—& tried all she could to persuade Mama, but she would not stay—but has promised to go some other day—they were so enchanted to hear you had settled everything in the Regt about your company– I never saw any one brighten up as Henrietta did about it– She looked so well, & sang so sweetly on her Guitar– She told me to tell you, that if you did not dine here on Monday, you were to dine with them—& take me with you– I hope you will get to town early on Monday– Alfred says he told you you would [be] up again in a week–

We must not be too sanguin [sic] about your company, but we cannot help thinking a great deal about it, it seems to have cheered us up–

It seemed so strange to be at the Barretts without you if you dont dine there on Monday, I aim to go up some other day next week & sleep with Henrietta. John could not get the money to-day—he was so busy, but intends doing so to-morrow–

Henrietta talked so much to me about your leaving the Army if you get your company—& learning Engineering–
