My Dear Old Master
Through the mercies of God another opportunity is afforded me of dropping a line or two to you hoping this may find you and yours in the perfect blessing of health a thankful it leaves us at present Capt. Foreman was here some time ago & he took a ride with me to see the inner part of the Pen so I did not intend writing you thinking he will be able to tell you better of the State of the Pen but after taking it into consideration I thought that a line or two will be acceptable to Master from his old Servant & more so as Capt. Sughre [sic, for Sughone] was here yesterday with Mr Jump & he told me that he will see master in seven weeks I thought Master would like to hear from myself of the State of the pen I will first tell master a little about the drought Oh master it was a severe and a continued one Ah Master little did I think that your stock would be able to survive day after another I was oblige to go down with them to the River for safety & continued so for 3 months it was well that there was a river so near or else many or all might have perished but thank God since the commenecment [sic] to the ending of the drought no accident of an extraordinary nature has happened we cleaned most all of the power which was excedingly fouled the main pond more so but thank God the drought ceased in May & the [rain] comes in abundance & has continued the ponds almost attained to their usual supply of water the Pastures which was all [illegible word] & parched up is now as green as ever they were By Master last letter I & My Attorney has changed 3 Bulls from diferent Parishes. Master will receive a stick by Capt Foreman unworthy as it is, it is a token of my affection also a making of My Youngest son George I was on Board Master good Ship & was in love with every thing that I see about it But I am looking to see master before I die Master did promise that I beg Master to remember me to Master Charles and all Masters children Trusting that Master life will be spared that I may see his face is the prayers
