… we have been 9 days on the road from Rome; but it was necessary to spend much time in visiting certain objects, necessary for my purposes—at Spoleto, at Sello—at that wonderful place Assisi, at Perugia, at Arezzo—we delayed more or less—the weather has been detestable, luckily we had one fine day at Assisi—but in general rain & gloomy—& the difference of climate when we got into the Apennines made us shiver—poor Geddie, never very efficient has been like a dead weight in my arms poor dear child—she has been happier here with her friend Mrs Browning—but I rather dread the rest of our journey– As to plans—we leave Florence on Thursday the 29 …
