My dear Sir

Since seeing you I have taken the liberty of giving Mr & Mrs Browning, of England, a letter to you– Mrs Browning, when Miss Barrett, published several volumes of poetry, which have given her name the highest literary rank– In addition to this she is one of the finest and most thorough scholars of her own or any other age although for many years a confirmed invalid[.]

Mr Browning is also a man of high poetic reputation. It gives me pride, as an American, to be able to present them to one of such eminence in the ‘Sister Art’ as yourself[.]

I write this because I could not delicately put it into a note of introduction and I was also desirous of showing you that I had commended to your kindness persons of no ordinary stamp.
