Dr Madam

I am sorry to find that our Misfortunes continue & that not only in the Family, but even with those that we are connected. The Death of Mr Nasmyth is a heavy Loss particularly at this Ju[n]cture when the Affairs of your husband began to near a more favorable aspect I feel at a Loss what to do as the Crops are very short & many of Contingences unpaid of last year[.] I have shiped Sixty Hhds & sixty Tierces of Sugar from those Estates on the Cornwall[.] Captn Johnston had Eighteen Hhds of the Beaufoy[.] Captn |M|orris[,] Mr Watson at the Bay writes me that he cannot Learn who does Business for Nasmyth & Campbell but he will direct to them as if they were alive, you had however better enquire into this and get the person who does their Business to make the necessary Insurances on these Goods. The Money for Supplies I will send Home after the arrival of the ensuing Packett when I may learn to whom I am to direct. Tom no doubt has informed you of the entire Destruction of your property at Montego Bay by Fire, It is my opinion it would be both for your & Son’s Int were the Lands to be sold, if a favorable price offered. I beg to hear frequently from you and every particular about the Children. When he Reaches of a sufficient Age I will come over to arrange his Education, in the mean time should any Accident befall me, he stands exactly in [his] revered Father’s situation.
