Dear Maria & Caroline,

It is late & I am tired & I did not think till 5 minutes ago, that the Steamer sailed tomorrow & that we ought to write as it is a month since you have heard. … The Liberty Bell is in Briggs’s hand & he says Davis’s Bells will be ready in time. I fear there may be a good many misprints & mistakes in the Bell as of course the proof was corrected at very great disadvantage, but I do not care any how. I cannot worry about it. I was sorry that Rushton’s letter did not follow Webb’s article as it should. I gave the order right, but some how it was not done. You will see what I mean when you see the book. The prose is better than sometimes, but there is no distinguished piece of poetry like Miss Barretts. …
