Well, dear Pearse, I have just received your last letter, the 21st, which is a very sore disappointment. …

Don’t let me forget that in a recent letter from Geo. Hillard he begged to be specially remembered to the Brownings. He says, “I recall them as dear friends. They can hardly imagine the interest they awaken here. The persons I have been most often questioned about since my return are Macaulay and the Brownings. Whenever you write, tell me anything you hear about them.” Add to this my own constant love and remembrance, and my special good wishes to Mrs. B. if I have been so thoughtless as to have omitted them. …
