Saturday morning [12 April 1851]

My dear Forster—

On my return to town I find a Letter from Jerdan—& also a printed Circular—neither of which can I understand. I should have liked to see you on the subject—but cannot do so today—I will call on you tomorrow Sunday (about 12 or 1)—unless you will drop me a line saying that you will dine here on Sunday at ½ past 6—which I should like better—but I can offer you no temptation to do so.

I conclude that the object of the meeting is a Subscription for Jerdan—& if so I will give you a cheque for Five Guineas—for him.

I have written a Letter in verse to Browning—which I mean to add to my next impression of my Songs. I should like to show it you. I think of printing it first—in the Athenaeum—unless you like to have it for the Examiner. It runs about 150 lines. Some of them are tolerably good—I think—but that you will see.
