Mrs. Browning too is quite carried away by his [Louis Napoleon’s] ability. She sent me word that Madame Sand (with whom she had become well acquainted) went to him to beg the release of some of Les Rouges, and commutation of sentence for others. He granted her request, spoke to her in the kindest manner, shook hands with her, and said at parting—“Vous verrez, vous serez contente de moi.”—“Et vous,” she replied, “vous serez content de moi.” …
