My dear James

I was sore afraid when you left us, that the Psora, prophecied by Dr Wahle, would break out ere you left the continent, it being those who are in-continent who are most subject to it. …

I have sealed these two notes to Forster & Leigh Hunt—because I have availed myself of the occasion to write more than an introduction, & also for fear that they may not arrive in time to serve you; in which case I wish you would transmit them to their address—whether you use them or not. I have explained in the notes that they may arrive too late. Just write on the outside “Mr Lowell has left London” if so. If they arrive in time & you wish to avail yourself of the introduction—all that is to be done is to put them in an other envelope with yr card & address, put the proper postage stamp on the outside, & send them by the post. I should have sent you a letter to Browning but I know not where he is.
