Mr & Mrs Browning, I am afraid we shall not see, as we have exchanged cards without meeting, & Edward & I do not wish to call again. Perhaps we shall meet, accidentally, either here or at Rome, but I hoped I might have seen something more of her this winter, when I should really like to have some lady to see, & don’t feel that I shall make much out of Mary Perkins & Marian Shaw. However, Mrs Parkman will be there, as kind & pleasant as she was in Paris, & I shall take refuge with her. …
