My dearest Altham,

As I cannot offer you, my affectionate good wishes (in person,) on yr birthday, I think you will like to receive a little note from your Grandmama, containing her good wishes, and those of your three Aunts, Mary, Bessy, and Susan for your having very many returns of the anniversary of your birth day—and may you my beloved Altham, continue to be a blessing and comfort, to your dear Papa, and Mama, and as you grow in years, you may grow in grace, and always be an affectionate brother to your dear Sister–

I send you a book which I hope will prove an amusement to you, and sometimes remind you of your grand mama, who dearly loves you; and who is anticipating much pleasure in seeing you and your sweet little Sister, the last week in April, please God nothing occurs to prevent her—your Aunt Susan wishes she had wings to join your dear family circle—on Monday– Kiss your dear little Sister for me; and ask your dear Mama, to kiss you for me– I am my dearest Altham your affect Godmother and Grandmama
