… I am always finding out meaning which I did not see before, and which I now cannot see perfectly—for, of course, till my heart is like Christ’s great heart, I cannot fully know what he meant. … You will find some thoughts of mine on this matter (though the Editor begged leave to omit the most important portion) in the Christian Spectator for May. They are in an article headed “Browning’s Christmas Eve.” The life, thoughts, deeds, aims, beliefs of Jesus have to be fresh expounded every age, for all the depth of Eternity lies in them, and they have to be seen into more profoundly every new era of the world’s spiritual history. …
