Dear Anna–

I have been reading for the first time (!) your notice of my artistic career which I accidentally fell in with at the Brownings—it has given me a sleepless but a happy night spent in living over again a life that has now been buried these many years—thank you dear Anna for the pleasureable though sad emotions it has given me & for the love with which you have judged me—& forgive the selfishness that made me incapable of sympathizing with any one as I ought, when I was proud & prosperous in a new-found happiness–

Yours affectionately & gratefully

Adelaide
