Friday Morning– [Postmark: 17 January 1817]
My dear Barrett
I have this morning sent off the four cows—James Trumper has gone with them and will I hope arrive safe with you tomorrow– Maybery the Butcher at Litton saw them, he says cannot set them at less than 16st p|2/| each, and that he would give me £64 for them if I liked which is 5d p Lb—they are rather keen of buying about here, meat being on the advance– E. Lewis offer’d me 60 Gs for them to sale again—the rest of the cows I shall today sell to Maybery—it would be as well if you were to send somebody to meet Trumper he will go no further than Hereford to night, and as I shall desire Taylor to send this over to you, you will have plenty of time to send somebody off to meet him & pray let him bring the boys back– Should it be convenient to you I shd be glad if you would £50 for me by Mondays post to Masterman & Co Bankers in London—but do not send now—as I am in much greater need of it here– Mr R is much better, has got down stairs, but has not yet ventured out—we had a great deal of Thunder abt 2 this morning—and hail, it is most extraordinary weather– Mary & little John are both quite well & unite with me in best love to all & Ever believe me
