Sir

I do not feel myself justified in requesting you to take the trouble to send me your calculations on the recent loan; at the same time if it be your pleasure to place them in my hands I shall be most ready to examine them to the best of my power.

At this moment I am not sure that I am master of the data by which you institute your comparison between the terms of a loan actually made in Consols, and those of some other loans that might have been made in a stock (4 per cent) which does not exist among us as a Government Stock–

I should learn with interest whether you had compared the loan in Consols with a supposed loan in 2½ per cent stock–

I presume that Capitalists will usually be disposed to given money on easier terms in Consols than in other stocks, an account of the immense scale of the dealings in that stock; in all cases otherwise presenting a paucity of advantages.
