My dear Miss Browning

I was sorry to miss seeing you when you were so kind as to call the other day & very sorry not to be able to go & say goodbye before leaving Paris—but I was not strong enough when it came to the last. I was overtired—the quiet & good fresh air here are delightful.

Mrs Holmes has again been rather seriously ill for some days in bed & not up yet though better.

I know not what she suffers from.

Mr Holmes says he pays no visits now—he has not come once even to see my Father who is an old friend of the family & he has not the excuse of delicacy for Mrs H says he is a rock of Gibraltar.

I have not yet had courage to write to dear Mrs Browning since I said adieu to her[.] I trust they are well & comfortable[—]if you have room when you write please give my love & my intentions of writing[.]
