My dear Sir

The present unsettled state of my mind, from the awful event that has lately happend—enables me but briefly to say—it has pleased Providence to deprive us of our Friend Edwd Barrett—ye 16th Inst—after a short Illness[.] It so happend that I was present on this important occasion– The bulk of his immense fortune has devolved on my Brothers two boys—which is the more miraculously Fortunate as his Will was but executed the 13th Inst—which had it not taken place—would have gone into a different Channel– You will by this Conveyance learn the Old Gentleman’s nomination of Exors– I have therefore but to request my affectionate remembrance to the dear Boys—and with particular respects to Mrs Clarke & Family–
