December 18 1856
We almost froze in our beds last night; and to-day it is bitter cold. We are reading eagerly Mrs. Browning’s new poem, Aurora Leigh. Rather a novel in verse than a poem; but full of glorious poetry, and written in the freest and most dashing style. It is very deep, impassioned, strong, and tender; evidently an autobiography,—not of facts, but of feelings.
