My dear Mr Snellgrove,

I fear that I have given you much trouble about the book, and that you have not been able to meet with it. If I had thought of it sooner, I would have asked my brother who knows Mr John Chapman, to write a note begging him to let you have a copy if possible. I mentioned it in a letter I wrote to my brother yesterday, but I am afraid there will not be time for an answer before your holidays commence. Pray let me apologise for having omitted to stamp my last note, whereby you would have the pleasure of paying double—it was the fault of my servant who took it to the post without my direction.

I see that the papers have informed you of the death of my brother and sister’s kind friend and relative Mr Kenyon—his loss will be severely felt, especially by my sister, to whom he was almost a father.

Pray remember us most kindly to all your family, and ever believe me
