… Your view of the Edinburgh Weekly Review is very much my own (waiving the personal question): still there was something right, tho’ too thick & thin, in the Spasmodic articles, as far as I looked into them. I don’t know who wrote that series. The editor is J. W. Finlay, who, I know, dabbles a little with art, & may have written the Edinburgh art-notices. I brought in the (or one of the) political writer—Watts, editor of the Yorkshireman, a fine fellow whom Woolner came across in Australia. The poorish article on Aurora Leigh was also my introduction (tho’ only as matter of obligation to a mutual friend). The writer is a Capt. Aïdé, who has written a volume of poems. These are, I think, the only writers I know. …
