I send you, dear Mary, an autograph of Browning’s– I am so glad you liked his wife’s. I hear they are no better off for Mr Kenyon’s death—& that if he had known the amount of his own property, he would have left them much more. …

I am afraid this letter may have the ‘piano’ tone, which comes of weariness: yesterday was, (even in my strong Edward’s description) “a tremendous day;” with all the home letters of the morning; the afternoon at this Exhibition; & in the evening, the sudden & shocking news of Lady Ashburton’s death,—which wrung heavy tears from Edward’s eyes. He sends you Browning’s letter, with his love. …
