Hope End

March 4th 1819

To the Doctor with the wig

On her birthday, Hope End

_________

Oh Muse come forth and sweep the hallowed lyre

And all my bosom with thine influence fire

To greet a much loved sister on her birth

With noisy fun and with prevailing mirth

Ten blissful years have blossomed o’er thy head

Ten happy years their joyful influence shed

Dear Henrietta blessed by thy birth

That brought a sister and a joy on earth

But now farewell I can no more delay

Now to the joys and pleasures of the day!

Edward Barrett
